Spring Cleaning!

Spring Cleaning.....

Here in my rainy corner of the world, tiny signs of spring are popping up all over.  I am so excited to see the spots of color in the crocuses and early blooming plum trees.  In reflection, I've loved creating with the new spring and summer papers in Cotton Candy, Pear and Ruby.  I'm also still in pursuit of getting my life, home and office whipped into shape.
But in order to get there, I'm living through a mess!  As I'm typing this, my house is full of thumping and banging as new carpet is being installed after 21 years.  Sometimes ya gotta make a mess to clean up a mess!

Here is an article I've referred to to create my filing system for my business expenses in hopes that next years tax time will be a breeze.

Business Bit:

Subject: Where is the top of your desk…

GET ORGANIZED! Where is the top of your desk – can you see it? Those of you who are fans of Flylady, know that she teaches skills to keeping your home organized but in bite-sized chunks beginning with a shiny kitchen sink. For a home-based business person, the “sink” is the top of your desk.
Use small baskets or clear containers to group and organize CD’s, pens, and tablets of paper. File away bills and receipts for 2011. Put your 2012 files in a banker’s box with a lid so that you will be ready to prepare your taxes. Establish new file folders for 2013 using the same categories as you did for 2012.
If you need ideas for filing categories for this year – consider the following.
*One file folder for each month January – December (use these to file your gathering and sales receipts
* Alphabetically have file folders for business receipts in the following categories:
Advertising & Promotion
Auto Expense/Mileage
Bank Statements/Charges
Business Gifts
Child Care Expense
Computer/Cable
Continuing Education
Conventions/Seminars
Credit Card Statements
Home Office Expense
Meals and Entertainment
Office Supplies/Printing
Postage/Shipping
Telephone
Travel Expenses
Miscellaneous Receipts
Take a quick trip to the office supply store if you haven’t already. Make sure you have a 2013 calendar, a new spiral notebook to use as a 2013 phone log, a fresh phone message pad, file folders, labels and flash drive or CDs for backing up your computer files.

Shout-Outs:
The first and biggest hip, hip, hooray!  goes to Lynn Como.  She is the FIRST consultant to earn the Costa Rica trip!!!!  How many of you are planning on joining her?  I know I am.

    1. If you ever get up this way, I'd love to have you attend! Linda is thinking about coming up to either my July or Nov meeting. I'm telling you, after 21+years in this business, I have a LOT to go through. My stuff has out grown my space and I'm not going to spread out beyond my office so stuff has to go! It's hard to part with old friends like my stash of old Idea Books and my favorite retired B&T's It's nice to know that they still live on in Studio J :o)
